About HDI Foundation
HDI Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing underprivileged children access to education. Many of these children come from poor families and most grow up following in their parents' footsteps – fishing, farming, scavenging in rubbish dumps, etc.
They have unrealized potential and education is crucial in helping them to excel in life and finally to break out of the vicious cycle of poverty that has plagued their families for generations.
Our Aim: To break the cycle of poverty by educating children and developing community independence.
Education is a great equalizer! Almost 13 million school aged children in Indonesia do not go to school (Source: Central Bureau of Statistics, 2006). The number of children lacking an adequate education in Indonesia will continue to increase despite the Government’s efforts to rectify the situation. It is our wish to help raising the standard of education and develop the children of today into valuable assets to society through our three main programs: Build a School, Sponsor a Child, and Train Teachers.
'Everyone has a right to education' - Article 26 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
HDI Foundation is managed with complete transparency. In line with regulations set by the Board of Governors, more than 90% of the donations are for the direct benefit of the children. Our work is currently in Indonesia. However, with increased support and funding, we will be able to reach out to more children in other developing countries.
