A 7.2 R.S. earthquake hit Mentawai Islands, West Sumatra at 9:40 p.m. on October 25, 2010. The epicentrum was located 78 KM southwest Pagai Selatan Island at a shallow depth of 14.2 kilometers. A total of 95 aftershocks have been reported since then. The quakes triggered a three-meter-high tsunami. The waves penetrated about 600 meters into the coastal villages on North Pagai Island and reached to the roof of local houses.
According to National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), 112 people died; 109 people are missing; and 520 families have been displaced.
On May 24, 2011 s / d May 26, 2011, HDIF collaboration with the Singapore International School (SIS), Kelapa Gading, Jakarta, providing assistance to help 50 children of school, teachers and 900 head of family in the worst affected areas are in Outermost island of the Mentawai islands.
Who received the donation is TK Bukit Kasih Yayasan Pesat, whose location is in Simalakopa, South Pagai, Sikakap, Mentawai Islands, West Sumatra.
Donations given from the Singapore International School allocated into furniture TK Bukit Kasih Yayasan Pesat. Furniture in the form:
a. Ten Tables for Students
b. Fifty Chairs Kindergarten Students
c. Two Tables for Teachers
d. One Cupboard School
e. One Cupboard for equipment of students
Donations given from HDI Foundation is Clover Honey with total 72 bottles @ 0.5 Kg. And given to students of students, teachers, and parents of TK Bukit Kasih.
