After HDI Foundation built SMP Pangerasan 1 last year, so that many children can continue their studies, early this year, HDIF started building SMP Pangerasan 2 –the extenstion of SMP Pangerasan 1, to satisfy the large demand for this education level since we have to turn away many others because of limited space.
And finally, the building construction has now completed. On Saturday, August 23rd, 2008 we had the opening ceremonial of Pangerasan Education Center (PEC). Constructed on a 4400 m2 land in Cijeruk Village area, this is the 7th school built by HDI Foundation since year 2005. In this project, HDI Foundation as the main sponsor is also supported by Yayasan Soekarseno Peduli who provides the land and runs the school operations, and Rotary Club Jakarta-Menteng helps us in providing the fence, electricity, chairs and tables.
The ceremonial was started at 10:00am by cutting ribbon and releasing 3 pigeons as the representation of 3 organizations: HDI Foundation, Yayasan Soekarseno Peduli and Rotary Club Jakarta-Menteng. Afterward, students of Pangerasan Junior High School presented an awesome monologue play regarding education issues. At last, all audience was invited to take a look the school rooms and facilities provided free for the students.
Together, the two schools can accommodate 230 Primary 6 undergraduates each year. The school will also function as a vocational training center for the students to equip them with practical life-skills.
