At early enraptured 2009, we started this year by doing cleaning-up activity at SMP Terbuka Teluknaga, Tangerang. This event called Voluntary Program – Cleaning Up at SMP Terbuka Teluknaga was carried out on 17 January 2009, divided into 3 parts, Painting, Planting and Cleaning Up at School area and its surrounding. This activity was organized to implement our regular school maintenance program for HDI Foundation assisted schools.
On bright and clear Saturday morning, we departed from HDI Foundation office, our team together with 10 volunteers traveled along 70 km distance for 1,5 hour headed to the school with various material and equipment, such as paint, tools for painting and kinds of plants which some of them were donated by our donors.
As we reached there; the teachers and all students of SMP Terbuka Teluknaga had unlimbered. We enthusiastically worked together based on the groups divided in the beginning. The spirit of togetherness was so strong, could be seen and felt between all of us. In fact, the atmosphere was so warm, full with joke and laughter.
The heat from the sun and the sweat on our bodies were not felt anymore, when we watched the happy face of the students who already became parts of HDI Foundation family. Finally the work was done. The classrooms of SMP Terbuka Teluknaga was now become lilywhite, the chairs and desks were also cleaned, and a small park was available in the very limited space. “Tired and weary were all paid, to witness the smile of the students who now have tidy and clean classrooms, although what I just did was not much”, said Jonathan Chun Sing smiling, one of the volunteer.
But the work would not be ended on that day; every student will keep carrying out the duty to maintain the school building in order that they can continue studying comfortably at well taken care and cleaned school building. We extended gratitude to our donors and volunteers who already gave their time and energy to share their love with the students of SMP Terbuka Teluknaga and to keep their commitment to be involved in another voluntary activity of HDI Foundation.
