HDI Foundation, committed to increase the quality of Indonesian teachers, sent 7 teachers of its schools from Teluknaga Junior High School, Pangerasan Junior High School, and MI Al Istiqomah Elementary School to attend “Student Development” Workshop, held by ProVisi Education, on August 7th, 2008. ProVisi Education is an education consulting company which established Teacher’s Club.
Teachers under HDI Foundation’ supervision are being developed to gain wider perspective and more qualified skill by participating periodically in different trainings and workshops. By this means, they have the opportunity to continuously learn, share experiences and grow together united in one mission to give quality education to students in their respective areas.
The workshop itself exposed how to maximize the student development by using Co-Curricular Activities (CCA). Most schools are applying similar kinds of CCA such us Scout, Computer, Paskibra, Basketball, Volleyball, English Club, Drum-bands, and many others. CCA be used to explore and develop students’ talents and interests, also interaction with others and it is part of holistic education method.
In this occasion, the participants were guided to analyze CCA by using Multiple Intelligences. There are eight different intelligences to account for a broader range of human potential in children and adults. These intelligences are:
§ Linguistic intelligence (word smart)
§ Logical –mathematical intelligence (number/reasoning smart)
§ Spatial intelligence (picture/visual smart)
§ Bodily-kinesthetic intelligence (body smart)
§ Musical intelligence (music smart)
§ Interpersonal intelligence (people smart)
§ Intrapersonal intelligence (self smart)
§ Naturalist intelligence (nature smart)
For example: 1 CCA can be determined into two intelligences.
