The collection of books in Taman Bacaan Melati is about 4000 copies.
Dolls from plastic bottles and storage box from shoes box are the souvenirs given by Taman Bacaan Melati for HDIF.
On July 8, 2013, HDI Foundation distributed story books, clothes, schoolbags and shoes and some school equipment to Taman Bacaan Melati in Ampera, South Jakarta. The donation handover was represented by Sidi Rana Menggala and Yeni Mardyana from HDIF to Ms. Virginia Veryastuti as Chief Executive of Taman Bacaan Melati.
These items were donated by generous donors. "Donors gave us these items trusting us to distribute to others in need," said Sidi Rana Menggala.
Ms. Virginia said that they were very grateful because the donated items are badly needed. There is a need for the story and knowledge books as more and more children and community people visit Taman Bacaan Melati.
"Current collection is about 4000 books and we still need to increase the quantity. Besides children, we also encourage housewives living in the area to increase their interest in reading, and to join our activities" said Ms. Virginia.
Taman Bacaan Melati was founded by Ms. Virgina whose vision is to increase children's interest in reading. She started from an open air area. For various reasons it had to be moved several times.
Today they have their own permanent place. From here on Taman Bacaan Melati can grow to accommodate more readers and also to develop other activities.
